Challenge

  • 50,000 square foot lab facility with a sizable lecture hall and multiple offices, including a 3-story parking garage
  • Multiple HVAC and plumbing systems including, but not limited to:
    • compressed air and vacuum lines for the laboratories
    • PVC coated ductwork for the preassembled lab exhaust hoods

Solution

Major equipment includes the following:

  • Mammoth Roof-top Air Handler Unit
    • FANWALL fan technology
    • Dolphin Clearwater water treatment system
    • 51 ft long X ~12 ft tall X 11 ft wide (58,600 lbs)
    • 31,000 cfm
  • Lab Exhaust fans by Greenheck
  • (2) 1500 MBH - Condensing Boilers
  • 93-ton Air Cooled Chiller
  • DOAS boxes (Nailor)
  • (2) 750,000 BTU water heaters with a 250 gallon storage tank
  • Lab Vacuum and Lab Air skid systems (Beacon Medaes)

A Closer Look

This project has been a test of patience for both the design team and contractors as it is a Design Build project with Hess Mechanical taking the lead as BIM coordinator.
